weekend

This weekend I decided to explore a little bit of Charlotte, North Carolina. I need to start thinking and researching which area of Charlotte I want to get an apartment in. Thankfully the weather was warm and sunny!!

Saturday morning:
9am Alison and I went for a 3 mile run with a running group I found on meetup. There was probably about 15 runners. After the run through the neighbor, I got a chai latte at Smelly Cat Coffee House and chatted with some of the other runners. The conversation was great but the chai was a little watery and not very favorfully. Then we walked over to Jack Beagles for breakfast. Delicious!!

Sunday morning:
At noon, Alison and I got our picture taken with Santa at Pet Essential. They were so patient with Alison. She did not like Santa's white beard. I had 5 shots to choice from, two different poses. The proceeds go towards the CMPD (Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department) Animal Care & Control spay/neuter clinic. Then we headed over to a dog park. Alison had some nervous energy to let go of. By that time it's 2pm, time for lunch. I decided to check out Viet-Thai Noodle House on our way back to the hotel. Delicious!!! I had vegetable pho with tofu and Vietnamese coffee. The food was so good is Vietnam, I miss it. I definitely recommend this place!!

Baker Park Reserve

September 16th-18th went camping at Baker Park Reserve with my friend Julie and her family (her mom & dad, 2 kids and husband). She likes 'easy' camping so we rented cabins. They were very nice. I still prefer tent camping. There was tons a walking trails, Alison loved it. Definitely recommend this park.

road trips

I love road trips: the open road, the scenery, listening to an audiobook from the library or sometimes scanning around to find something on the radio, dog sitting on my lap, the speed, the freedom. I'm usually by myself when I go on a long roadtrips. This weekend I drove 5 & half hours (338 miles) to Midland to see the guy. Fourth of July weekend, I'm driving almost 9 hours (506 miles) to Kansas City, Missouri to be with family.

weekend recap

GREAT weekend!! Had some friends over Friday night. I tried a new recipe, beet pesto. DELICIOUS!! I added about 1/4 cup more oil than the recipe stated, next time I am going to add four garlic cloves to the mixture. Everyone else seemed to like it too! Trying new recipes always make me a little nervous. Thinking about playing around with the recipe and trying it with a pound of sweet potato instead of beets. Love sweet potatoes! After dinner we played Farkle, it's my new favorite game!! I played it with Julie and her husband last weekend when I was up in Minnesota. Game of chance and gamble. To roll again or not! Photobucket
Yes, I did win!
On Saturday I biked 63 miles around Muenster and the surrounding cities. Last year Muenster Metric Century Bike Rally was my first ever 63 bike ride. It's a tough ride, the hills come coming and coming and giving and giving. This year it did not seem as tough as last year but some of those hills felt like I was going straight up. Finished in 4 hours and 45 minutes, very happy with that time!! I stayed house for the rest of Saturday and all Sunday. Didn't get in my car once. Just laid around watching The Wire season 5, reading Flirt by Laurell Hamilton and eating lots of sugar cookies. Why does the weekend go by so quickly and the weekdays seem to drag on & on?

September 19, 2009

I went out and helped Shawn work on a house last Saturday. It is still hard to believe Shawn and I have been down in Dallas for over a year and in 12 days he will be moving back to MN. Next Saturday, 26th, is his last Saturday with Habitat for Humanity. We actually got along a lot better than I thought. A couple little argument but no big fights like I thought we would of had. I am going to miss the big guy.

Weekend

It was a good weekend. I got a little sunburnt!!Saturday morning, a couple co-workers and I walked in the Race for the Cure around North Park in Dallas. We were on another co-worker's team. Beautiful morning!!
Me, Erinn, Donna and Midge almost to the finish line.
Midge, Erinn and I got breakfast/lunch afterwards at Luna de Noche in the North Park mall. I got the Luna Layer and mango margarita. Delicious! Caught the train back to Mockingbird station. Walked three block and played flag football at 1pm.
Sunday I walked around White Rock Lake then went to the Texas State Fair with a co-worker and his roommate. We were there for about three hours. Which was perfect. I am not a big fan of state fairs. I find them a little boring. We test-drove cars, walked around, watched three pig races then left. No rides, no games, no food- perfect. Above is Big Tex, he is the mascot of the Texas State Fair.

pictures from last weekend

It was a nice relaxing weekend.

I walked around White Rock Lake both Saturday and Sunday morning. Beautiful mornings!! It is the middle of October and I am still able to wear tank tops outside without freezing!!! haha, Minnesota!!!
After my walk on Saturday, I went to a Urban Street Market in southwest Dallas. The area is called Bishop Art District. It reminded me of the Lyndale area. They are trying to built up the area with cute stores and restaurants.

MMMMM....candy ice cream in a waffle cone!!!!

Lazy, lazy kitties!!!!

Weekend

I took it easy this weekend. On Friday I saw Eagle Eye with Brandon, Sonesh and Chamika (co-workers). Pretty good movie!!! Lots of action!! Saturday was flag football. We lost again but we are getting better. No one ran into a teammate (that would be me last game). Afterwards Jennifer, Elbert and I went for lunch. Got home and took a 3 hour nap. Playing flag football really wipes me out. I stayed home the rest of the night.
Sunday I walked around White Rock Lake in shorts and a tank top. I heard in MN there was frost on the ground in the morning. On the map, I walked the red path. It took me 2hrs 30mins. Beautiful day!!! Champika and I went to an Ethiopian resaurant Kereje. I liked it. They gave you a platter with a big piece of doughy bread, injera, that covers the whole platter and scoops of sides on top of it. I got the vegetarian dish; a greens, three types of lentils in various textures, potato salad and a tomato salad. It was a hole in the wall kind of place. We are going to try to find a Somali restaurant next.

3am snack at Cafe Brazil

Shawn and I went for a walk on the Katy Trail Sunday morning. It remained me of the Greenway in Minneapolis. After the walk, I went to an amazing Indian Buffet with two co-workers!! Then we walked after the Galleria Mall for a couple hours. This weekend was a nice and relaxing.

Interesting weather weekend

It started on Wednesday while watching the morning news, the meteorologists were predicting that Hurricane Ike could be a tropical storm by the time it reached Dallas. WHAT?!!? I was picturing heavy rain, strong winds, flooding, dark skies and my cats freaking out. It was my topic of conversation all Wednesday. Then on the Thursday morning news, they said the storm was going to miss us and be more east. GRRR, I got all nervous for nothing. I never believed the meteorologists in Minneapolis but this was major. I have never even been close to a hurricane before. Never worried about one. The news on Friday morning said the hurricane could be a category 1. I changed the channel. Whatever. It was humid during the day.

Went out Friday night. A co-worker had a house welcoming party in the Uptown area then we went to the Corner Bar (it was like a college bar).

Saturday morning, the sky was gray, the wind was blowing and it was lightly raining. Flag football was canceled. I guess every TV channel was saying something different about the storm and the people who put the game together did not want to chance it. It was windy and rain off-and-on all day. I had cabin fever. Shawn came home after work wet and mud. He said they built the house in the rain. I baked artichoke heart/spinach/feta cheese calzones. Delicious!! It stopped raining later that night. I saw Burn After Reading at 11:25pm with some co-workers. Interesting movie. I cannot talk about the movie without giving something away.

Sunday was GORGEOUS!!! Sunny and a light breeze! I walked around Uptown then went to Buffalo Wild Wings with some co-workers to watch some football games. I laughed a little this morning. It was in the 50s. Its Minnesota weather.
