15k

I ran my first 15k on Saturday January 31st!!! Finished in 96mins!! I ran with someone I met at the apartment complex, Kathy. The last three weekends we have been running around White Rock Lake (9miles) to get ready for the Austin Half Marathon on February 15th. We made a new friend. While running we were talking about Chicago (where Kathy is from) and Minneapolis, the girl next to us said she was from Chicago. She moved to Texas about 3 weeks ago. The more and more I think about it, moving to Texas was a good idea. In Minnesota I had my four friends I hung out with and that was it. I had acquaintances but I only kept up relationships with my four friends. Now I am making friends everywhere! I also realized how much I LOVE running!!

Ice Day

January 28th the office was closed due to inclement weather conditions!! Yup, the office was closed because of ice!!! It was a good day! I laid around in my pjs all day!!

The left is a picture of the ice on our porch at 10am.
On the right picture, you can see the snow on the roofs.

Some more pictures of snow, in the apartment courtyard:

Texas

The area is bracing for what could be the worst ice storm in five years, according to the National Weather Service.

I am hoping for ice. Crossing my fingers and toes. If there is enough ice on the roads, work might let us go home early. Go home and watch movies!

Grandparents

Its my grandma and grandpa using their walkers. My grandma had her hip replaced on Christmas Eve day. I believe within a month she should be able to just use a cane. My grandpa has a severe stage of Alzheimer's disease. This picture was taken by my uncle. My grandma and him were visiting my grandpa in the nursing home.

Defiance

Three Jewish brothers escape from Nazi-occupied Poland into the Belarussian forest, where they join Russian resistance fighters and endeavor to build a village in order to protect themselves and others in danger. ~ imdb.com

Really good movie!!! I saw this on Tuesday, sneak preview. Not usually a fan of war movies. They are hard to watch. This movie was different, part of this movie was hard to watch but I care for the characters and you saw humanity, you saw how the people lived and how they dealt with the conditions. There were some funny parts that were a nice breather part. It is two hours long, some parts felt a like long but all in all it flowed nicely. At times, Craig Daniels' eyes were too blue, it took something away from the movie. Loved Liev Schreiber, George MacKay and Jamie Bell.
3.5 out of 4 stars.

Gran Torino

A co-worker and I saw Gran Torino last night with a meetup.com group, Dallas Great Movies and Books Club. It’s a great story! I liked Clint Eastwood’s character. According to imdb.com, ‘open casting calls for Hmong actors were held in Hmong communities in Detroit, Michigan; Saint Paul, Minnesota; and Fresno, California. None of the Hmong actors in the cast had acted in a film before except’ for one of the actors. I do not know what it was but something about the movie made me disconnected from it. At the end, the person next to me was crying. I am usually a cry-baby at movies but I did not even get teary-eyed at the end of this one. This is a movie I am going to recommend people to watch as a rental, not something you need to see in the theatre.

2009

2008 is done and gone. We celebrated the beginning of 2009 with Champagne, it is now time to start making changes. After visiting Minnesota, I realized that its not my home anymore. It validated my thoughts about moving around to different states. I never thought I would say it but I am glad to be back in Dallas. The last hour of the trip seemed longer than the other 15 hours. Its still be busy at work but not like it was last month. I felt like I was scrambling across with my head cut off. Its time to start volunteering again, hopefully at an animal shelter. On Monday I am going to get my Texas license plates. I have been training for a half marathon in February, its time to push myself a like bit harder. Its time to get out of the apartment and explore Texas. I also need to remember that a night with a book, tea and the cats curled up next to me is ok too. Even though its only January 2nd, I have a feeling its going to be a good year. I am excited!
