Movies

This week I saw Jennifer's Body and Pandorum. Luckily I saw both movies for free because neither of them were very good.

Jennifer's Body was like a teenage boy's wet dream mixed with some horror. Megan Fox is not a very good actress. some parts were good but overall, not so much. Its a renter.

Pandorum was confusing, I had no feelings towards the characters and I felt like the movie just wanted to shock and scare people. Lame. But I did stay. I wanted to see have it would end. What the spin at the end would be. I would also rate this has a renter. If you are looking for a space/action/monster movie, I recommended Event Horizon.

attempted bombing

Scary!! A Jordanian national was arrested Thursday and charged with attempting to bomb Fountain Place, a 60-story glass office tower in downtown Dallas, the FBI said. I work a few blocks away from the Fountain Place building.

September 19, 2009

I went out and helped Shawn work on a house last Saturday. It is still hard to believe Shawn and I have been down in Dallas for over a year and in 12 days he will be moving back to MN. Next Saturday, 26th, is his last Saturday with Habitat for Humanity. We actually got along a lot better than I thought. A couple little argument but no big fights like I thought we would of had. I am going to miss the big guy.

Friday, September 18, 2009

Shawn, a few of his Habitat for Humanity friends and I saw the movie 9 on Thursday. I was a little confused, even at the end. Shawn was totally irritated with the movie.
Rating: red box the movie when it is released

September 11th, 2001

I cannot believe it has been 8 years. Do you remember where you were when you heard the new? I remember I was in my room downstairs in my parent's house getting ready for school. Listening to 93x, an alternative radio station in MN. The DJs were talking about it and I honestly thought they were joking at first. Finally I turned on the TV. Totally shock! I still went to school. My first class was a social study and we were all talking about what happened. The professor came in and we asked him his thoughts. He did not know it happened. He said he has family in New York, he dismissed class and ran out of the room. The campus was a lot quieter than usually. I remember my mom crying that night.

New Apartment

Moved into my new apartment last weekend!! Pictures soon. My brother Shawn and I have been living together the last year. He has decided to move back to MN at the end of September. Still in the some apartment complex, just different building. I like the apartment! The two-bedroom was too big and I never hung my pictures. This apartment is 600-and-some sq ft. Next week some friends are coming over for dinner and helping my hang pictures. Going to Art & Frame Expo tonight to get two pictures framed. Michael's does an ok job framing but I want better than that. One of the pictures I getting framed is a picture my mom painted and other is a picture of a church in Prague. I heard good things about Art & Frame Expo, crossing my fingers.

Less than a year left in Texas!!

European Holiday

I got back from my European vacation yesterday! It feels good to be home (own bed, pillows, not living out of a suitcase) but at the same time, I wish I still was in Europe (love their culture, walking about, not stuck in a cube). Below are some of my favorite pictures:To get to my hotel in Berlin, I decided that I would take the bus and train there. This is the map I see. After a split second of panic and 15mins of looking at the map, I figured it out!!!
This is the TV Tower in Prague. It was built when the Communist ruled Hungary, still in use today. Recently, they put statues of babies going up the TV Tower, it is suppose to represent that if your babies watch TV we will turn into monsters.
I am in the soldier stand at the palace (now its a couple museums) in Vienna.
In Vienna, we went to a orchestra performance. Its about half the group.
This is in Budapest. Relaxing on our balcony!

June 8, 2009

It has been a couple weeks since the last time I made dinner. Seriously. Lately I have been eating leftovers, going over to other people's house, going out, free dinners at the clubhouse of the apartment complex or jelly and crackers. Last night I either had to make something, going out or eat crackers and jelly, I decided to cook. Pretty easy and delicious, spinach noodles mixed with sauteed garlic, avocado and asparagus with goat cheese and tomato on top! MMM!! Tonight is dinner at the clubhouse, food from Quesa-d-yas. Tomorrow, I am going to make bbq marinated tofu, corn-on-the-cob and corn bread.

Only in Texas

There is a city in Texas called Cut n Shoot. Next time Sara comes down, we are taking a road trip there.

According to one local legend, Cut n Shoot was named after a 1912 community confrontation that almost led to violence. According to differing versions of the story, the dispute was either over:
The design of a new steeple for the town's only church,
The issue of who should be allowed to preach there, or
The conflicting land claims among church members.
Whatever the circumstances were, a small boy at the scene reportedly declared "I'm going to cut around the corner and shoot through the bushes in a minute!" This statement apparently stayed in the residents' minds and was eventually adopted as the town's name.

June 4 - Polka Night

Every Thursdays, April 30th thru July 30th from 730pm to 930pm, there is music at the Arboretum. Kathy, Carol, Susan, Susie and I walked from our apartment complex to the lawn just behind the Arboretum where the music was playing. We had a picnic and chit chatted. Beautiful evening! No mosquitoes!!!

New TV Show

The Goode Family is on ABC, just started.

"Meet Gerald and Helen Goode, a couple who live by the motto WWAGD ("What Would Al Gore Do?"). Gerald, a college administrator, and Helen, a community activist, are determined to obliterate their carbon footprint on the planet: They're zealous vegans, they drive a hybrid, and they recycle everything possible. Even the family dog, Che, is vegan. In the words of Helen, all the Goodes want to do is buy organic apples and call minorities by their right names. But despite their best efforts, something always goes haywire with their politically correct plans." ~ abc.com

Memorial Weekend in MN

Saw Julie Thursday night. Met at Oak City with Drew and Anna. I have not seen Julie since August. It was nice to catch-up!Faith and I!!!
After swimming Friday afternoon, Sara and I had Faith try on dresses at a local thrift store.
At the dam in Pine City with my aunt and Faith before visiting my great-grandma. When my great-grandma still had she house, after Thansgiving all the women and kids would walk to the dam. It was nice talking about old family memories with aunt Kim.
I love lilacs! They smell wonderful, very fragrant!!
More flowers!
A view of downtown Minneapolis from Lake Calhoun. Drew and I walked around the lake (3.1miles) after dinner Saturday night. It was a wonderful, resting weekend!

Fringe Festival

I just signed up to volunteer for the Fringe Festival July 30th and August 7th in Minneapolis!! This will be my fourth or fifth year volunteering. Love it!! From the website:
Q. What is Fringe?
A. Minnesota Fringe is a Minneapolis-based nonprofit organization whose mission is to connect adventurous artists with adventurous audiences. The biggest way we do this is by organizing the Minnesota Fringe Festival, an annual eleven-day performing arts extravaganza. In 2008, we issued 40,929 tickets to 154 shows. Most Fringe shows are 60 minutes or less and there's a 30-minute break between each show.

Q. When is Fringe?
A. Thursday, July 30 through Sunday, August 9, 2009 is our next festival. Give or take, Fringe is always the first two weekends (and the sandwiched weekdays) of August each year.

Q. Where is Fringe?
A. In the Uptown, West Bank and Northeast-North Loop districts of Minneapolis. In 2008, there were 14 venues standard Fringe venues and BYOV (Bring Your Own Venue) locations for site-specific works.

So as of right now, the plan it to arrive in MN 11pm on July 29. Probably volunteer at three shows for the Fringe Festival then get ready for my camping trip on the 30th. July 31st thru August 6th, Faith, I and eight other are to to backpack around Isle Royale, an island off of Michigan. Volunteer at another three shows on the 7th. My dad is getting married on Saturday the 8th. Then I fly out back to Dallas on Sunday the 9th. Four days later I leave for my Berlin, Vienna, Prague and Budapest trip!!!

Sunday May 17th

GORGEOUS day on Sunday!!! I believe it was in the 80s. Beautiful day to be outside!!! Ate brunch outside at the pool with some people from the apartment complex, walked a little bit around white rock lake, about eleven of us from the apartment complex walked to the Lakewood Shopping Area where there was a festival and ate at Matts. Got a little sun burnt on my shoulders!!
The next couple days are going to be crunch time at work. Leaving for MN of Thursday. I need to have anything looking good before I go. Land in MN at 740pm, probably hang out with Jena and Julie. Friday I am going to Faith's school to eat lunch with her. Hopfully visit Stef and the Wilkowski. Visit my 96 year old great-grandma on Saturday with my aunt. Then Sunday have brunch at my other aunt's house. Leave Monday at 730am. Hoping to kidnap my sister Faith for pretty much the whole time while I am there.Faith and I at the Britney Spears concert during her spring break visit in March.

Friday May 15

Tonight I am going to Late Nights at Dallas Museum of Art. The museum has the Late Nights once a month. It is open until midnight and they have special events going on. Tonight, they have two novelists talking about their books, movies playing (1959 The Mummy and 1932 The Mummy), belly dancing, jazz, and one of the tours I want to go on is about Powerful Women in History. Going to be a fun night!

Saturday May 9th

Saturday morning at 10am Stacy, Kathy, Susan, Carol, Amanda and I started our 2.5 mile walk to Garden Cafe for brunch. Delicious!!! The cafe has a garden in the back (that is where the picture was taken) where they pick their herbs and some of their vegetables. Afterwards we walked along Swiss Ave where all the old mansions are to Paciugo for some gelato then home. It was a perfect day for a 5 hour walk!
